Comprehension Lesson: A Bag of Tricks

Now that we have reviewed examples on making inferences, please read the passage below in preparation for our next class.

A Bag of Tricks

Anancy was going along the road one day when he over heard Sly Mongoose talking on his cell phone. "Sly Fox, Sly Fox," Sly Mongoose said. "Meet me by the corn field tonight at 10 o'clock. Monkey is picking some corn so we would not have to worry about dinner." Upon hearing this, Anancy sent a text message to Monkey immediately. Anancy and Monkey decided to set a trap for Sly Fox and Sly Mongoose.

At 10 o'clock, Monkey came out of the corn field with a heavy bag on his back. Sly Fox and Sly Mongoose were eying the bag on his back waiting for the right moment to steal it from Monkey. They pounced on Monkey, who dropped his bag and ran.

Anxious to get the corn inside the bag, they placed their hands inside the bag. Instead of corn, out jumped a long big rattle snake with its tail in the air. Sly Fox and Sly Mongoose ran away terrified and their screams could be heard for miles. Anancy and Monkey hugged each other and smiled.
